David W. Kim, M.D. is double-Board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.  Dr. Kim is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the most respected association of surgeons in the world.   Dr. Kim specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head, and neck. His services range from minimally invasive office procedures with little to no down time to major operations leading to dramatic improvements in appearance.  He received his B.A. in human biology at Stanford University and his M.D. and surgical residency training in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical School.  DrDr. Kim completed his specialty training with a fellowship in Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Chicago. While in Chicago he trained with world-renowned facial plastic surgeons Dean Toriumi, M.D, J. Regan Thomas, M.D., and M. Eugene Tardy, M.D. and nasal reconstructive surgeon Gary Burget, M.D. In 2003, Dr. Kim was appointed as Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.  As a full-time academic facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Kim is a leader in his field, functioning at the cutting edge of medical science and technology.

Dr. Kim is actively involved in teaching facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in the residency programs and medical school at UCSF and participates in numerous committees for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He regularly participates in scientific meetings and clinical instruction courses on a national level. His past academic activities have resulted in span> over fifty scientific articles, chapters, and national presentations. In addition, Dr. Kim has an extensive research background and is currently conducting several studies which aim to objectively test current methods used in facial plastic surgery and to find objective, patient-based outcome measures for facial plastic and reconstructive procedures.  He is the principal investigator of the first ever national, multi-center outcomes study on functional rhinoplasty.  

Dr. Kim has expertise in both primary and revision rhinoplasty for the improvement of nasal appearance and breathing, complex nasal reconstruction, facial rejuvenation surgery (facelifts, neck lifts, and eyelid and forehead surgery) and reconstruction of congenital and traumatic facial deformities. In addition, Dr. Kim is an authority in an assortment of in-office procedures for facial rejuvenation, including botox, injectable fillers for augmentation, and skin resurfacing. His philosophy regarding cosmetic and reconstructive procedures is to strive for aesthetic improvements which are natural and harmonious with each patient’s individual features, avoiding an artificial, operated appearance.span>
